Hanna

I thought that today I would give a book review on a book I read this past weekend:

Life of Pi captures the imagination and enlightens the soul. It is a captivating read; I found I couldn't put it down once I had started it. Pi Patel is a 16 year old boy who finds himself shipwrecked on a life raft, with a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and tiger as his companions. He faces sharks, low water supply, sunstroke, and the animals. Eventually, only the tiger named Richard Parker remains, and Pi slowly begins to train it. Yann Martel weaves a fascinating plotline to make a believable story out of an unbelievable event. Pi Patel survives seven months on the open sea with a tiger. The book gives a glimpse into faith and depravity, and also the perseverance and survival of hope. It is hope which causes Pi to persevere, which brings him life when he believes his life is over. The end of the story is given away in the first part, though this does nothing to diminish the books suspense, action, and terror. The characters blossom to life, assisted by the unbelievable situation and the knowledge of the nature of man and animals. Life of Pi is well worth reading, it gives a reader renewed assurance in today's literature world. Yann Martel has spun a story that is complex, humorous, endearing, and enthralling.

Note: There is graphic violence and horrific gore in some parts of this novel. I would recommend it as an adult read.
