I started my online summer classes a few days ago from a community college. One of these classes is Regional Geography. The topic of discussion for this class is the "population explosion" that is currently "overtaking the world". Many of my discussion partners have stated that if not dealt with, the poor countries having a population explosion will take over all the world resources, causing them to run out and inflicting suffering on us all. Their preferred preventative for this explosion is to go into third world countries and teach them about birth control and abortion, so they can control the amount of children they have.
How will teaching them about abortion be an ethical or even good solution to this silly problem? As a Christian, I do not think that the earth has a population limit, as I believe that God is in control and knows and understands every person that is born. Further, making poor countries knowledgeable about abortion will only afflict more pain into their lives.
My solution to this problem, if it can be counted a problem, is to go into those third world countries with resources from our own country. These may include blankets, clothing, animials, seeds, water, and food. Redistribute the resources on the earth to help support the population. We have enough resources. We just need to make sure they are in the right hands, the hands of each precious child that is a gift from God.
Todays blessing: being able to go to a Christian college in the fall.
